YapCap Privacy Policy
Effective 11 October 2026
Applies to the YapCap Android app (package com.nitsofts.yapcap) published by nitsofts.
Short version: YapCap has no accounts and no servers of its own. Your video stays on your phone. Only the audio of a clip you choose is sent to the speech-to-text provider you configured, using your own API key, and only when you tap “Generate captions”.
1. What the app does with your data
- Videos stay on your device. Captions are rendered and burned into the video on the phone. The video file itself is never uploaded by the app.
- Audio is sent only when you ask. When you generate captions, the app extracts the audio track of the clip you picked and sends it over HTTPS to the speech-to-text provider selected in Settings: Groq (the default) or a server address you entered yourself. The provider returns the words and their timings. The temporary audio copy is deleted from the app’s cache afterwards.
- Your API key is stored on your device in Android’s encrypted storage and is sent only to the provider it belongs to. You can replace or delete it in Settings at any time.
- Exports are saved to your gallery (album “YapCap”) and listed inside the app so you can share them again. Deleting them from the app or the gallery removes them.
- Settings such as your chosen language, style and theme are stored locally on the device.
2. What we do not do
- We do not run any server for the app and we do not receive any of your content, keys, transcripts or usage data.
- The app has no account system, no login, no analytics, no advertising SDK and no crash reporting.
- We do not collect, store, sell or share personal data.
- The app does not request contacts, location, camera or microphone permissions. It uses the Android photo picker to read the video you choose and the gallery to save the result.
3. Third-party provider
Speech-to-text is performed by the provider you choose, under your own account and key. How that provider handles the audio it receives is governed by its own terms and privacy policy:
- Groq: https://groq.com/privacy-policy/
- A custom server you configure: the policy of whoever operates that server.
4. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly process their data.
5. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published at this address with an updated effective date.
